The Basics: Training a favored soul [NK]

With a small gust of wind Tenkai popped into existence. He had arrived at the area which he had sensed Sansuka's reiatsu. Ironically enough it was in fact the Shinigami Academy. It was an appropriate place to be located when one was taking interest in a young soul. He assumed that Sansuka had enrolled, whomever it was, into the shinigami academy. It was certainly the best way for one to be safe, as relative as it was in the Soul Society. Scanning around slowly he pin pointed where he felt his friends reiatsu and began making his way over to him. He could sense another signature of reiatsu, different then that of his friend. It was stronger then most of those who were around, taking exception to the teachers of the academy. It was strong enough to be someone at graduate level, perhaps even higher.

If this individual was indeed the one Sansuka had taken on, he could see why. For them to have just been Konsoed, and already possess this much reiatsu. Tenkai easily colored himself fairly interested in this individual now. The two now came into view to him, standing before the registration platform. The woman behind the desk was clearly busy preparing paperwork and filling things out for the new young student. Gliding up silently Tenkai stood behind his friend and placed a hand on his shoulder. "San, I see you decided to make good on the orders I gave you. This young soul here does indeed need guidance. If anything was done otherwise their talent would surely be wasted." Tenkai removed his hand from his friends shoulder and placed them into the sleeves of his haori.

Gazing down at the young woman he now saw, he smiled lightly. "So Sansuka, would you grace me with an introduction of your new student here. I would be quite happy to make their acquaintance." His smile faded and he turned his gaze back over to Sansuka. He eagerly anticipated the introduction of this young soul who he was sure would accomplish great things in the coming years.

Sansuka smiled lightly and scratched the back of his head. He felt Tenkai's Reaitsu enter the Soul Society and it was then that he knew he'd be on his way. A soft smile crossed his lips as the man appeared before them. "Haha, Bushinji-san. It's a pleasure to see you again. And yes, this is indeed the one I referred to. The amazing one that held me up from the meeting." He smiled softly feeling the hand on his shoulder. A pleasant warm feeling came to him as he spoke out once more. "This is Sayomi Cho, soon to be vice Captain of Kyubantai." He chuckled softly as he scratched the back of his head, feeling lazy as always. "She's quite dead set against fighting though. I understand it however. She plans to take Captaincy of the Fourth! A true legacy my very own daughter tried to accomplish." he chuckled softly but frowned only slightly remembering his loss. After shaking his feelings, he smiled once more and wondered what was made of the pipsqueaks in the World of the Living.

Tenkai nodded his head slowly as he took in the information. The young woman's name was Sayomi Cho, an intrepid little soul it seemed. She endeavored to accomplish great things, the first being Vice Captain of Squad Nine. However, Tenkai was unsure if that was of her, or Sansuka's design. He smiled slightly as this thought passed through his mind. However, that smile was quick to fade with the following bit of information. It was not the actual statement that drove it away, but the attachments to it. Both Tenkai and Sansuka's old souls had attachments of their own to the Fourth Division. Sansuka's own daughter had attempted to take up the mantle after the previous Captain had died. Tenkai himself bore the tragedy of having that former Captain be his own wife. Nodding quietly, Tenkai moved the thoughts from his own head as he was sure Sansuka had done.

He had dwelt upon the past more then enough over the past few weeks to cover a life time. It was not something that Tenkai desired to think of, but continued to rear its ugly head into his life. Sighing ever so lightly so as to not be heard, he smiled briefly once more. "I see, well that is quite the ambition that you carry with you young Sayomi. I believe my granddaughter Sayomi is an officer in the Fourth Division. Perhaps she will be able to assist you as a subordinate when you achieve your goals." Nodding to the young soul, Tenkai took it upon himself to step to the side away from the ground. "Not to be rude, but I must speak with Sansuka in private about some official business. If you would come with me for a moment Sansuka." Nodding once more, Tenkai strode away to the side of the building in which they once occupied. He needed to let Sansuka know the current state of affairs.

Though all was currently well, his heart was still not at ease. His soul sat with uncertainty to the capture of the rogue Captains and how their trial would go. He just wanted everything to go smoothly, but he knew there was one that could possibly get in the way of it all. The one he had just recalled was most likely the cause of his concern. The last of the four rogue Captains, Uchiro Kamashi.

Tenkai cleared his throat before looking at his surroundings making sure no one else was around. There were no spies or anyone of the such he was concerned about. This was simply a rather important matter that no one but the two of them needed to hear. "More then there really should be bothering me, that much is certain." Sighing lightly, he crossed his arms over his chest, his face moving to that of slight concern. "The three Captains that I encountered in Alaska gave no fight at all. They were quickly taken into custody and are now in the Senzaikyu. They will face their trial when it is arranged with the Central Forty Six." He stopped for a moment, drawing in closer to Sansuka. The real issue of the matter was about to become evident. "Uchiro Kamashi, the Captain of Squad Three is still free. I believe I know where he is but I cannot bring war to where he has hidden."

Sighing once more, Tenkai turned around pacing along the side of the building. He slowly paced back and forth as he shook his head in confusion. "I don't understand what he is doing. His cohorts were captured and are imprisoned. They will most likely face death and yet he has remained indecisive in his actions. He had not lifted a single finger yet. I fear what he may be planning and if perhaps being captured was part of a plan." Stopping his pace, he turned and moved towards Sansuka once more. Close up to him once again he uttered a single sentence that summed up his concerned. "I do not want them getting loose in the Soul Society. It would be an even larger crisis then them simply being loose in the World of the Living. Just, remain on your toes San, I don't trust anything of whats going on."

Sansuka nodded as he sighed greatly. So this was what made Tenkai upset. It was for good reason as well. He shook his head before speaking softly. "I agree. This is not something that makes sense in any long term goal. But do not worry Onii-san. The Seireitei Security force is well trained. If anything happens, and if need be, I'll handle it personally. He said smiling softly. They both knew his words meant little, but they also both knew he was trying to do what he could. If they truly wanted to escape they'd find a way most likely. The only assured way to make sure they didn't was to keep them locked in the Seki stone walls. Sansuka looked towards the tower and sighed audibly. His concern shown on his face. He was worried, and with good reason. This was some of the most annoying things that could happen.

"My time has been spent, well, focused on Sayomi as of late. I feel, rather bad because of it. It's not that I've managed to shirk my duties as usual but I feel drawn to her oddly enough. As if, she's someone I really feel could benefit from my tutelage. In our old age, Onii-san, we rarely feel that, don't we?" He chuckled a little, realizing that he was kind of damn old. Which lead him to laugh more because Tenkai was slightly older than him by, perhaps a few years. This was comedy for Sansuka, but, it was short lived of course. For now, he felt concerned while trying to stay focused on not being concerned. It was a dilemma.

Tenkai nodded knowing full well what Sansuka said was true. He had trained his men well in their duties. The Ninth Division had been in charge of maintaining a much broader patrol of the Seireitei ensuring the safety of its entire domain. With Sansuka being their Captain it was natural he had his eyes over the entirety of the Seireitei making sure that crime stayed to a minimum within their home. Sansuka himself, in a matter of personal combat, was certainly no slouch either. He was a Captain of the Gotei Thirteen, and boasted a strength and combat experience that was nothing to turn ones nose up to. While he was sure of his friends strength, he still knew that Uchiro was strong in his own right.

"I believe in you Sansuka but just make sure to keep yourself on guard if you do encounter him. There is a reason he is as young as he is and a Captain." He paused taking a breath and remembering an old proverb that his father had imparted to him. It was one that Tenkai had always carried with him into all of his battles. It was perhaps a reason that he had survived as long as he had through all the years of war and chaos. "Treat every battle as though it were your last, lest it become just that." He nodded slowly for only a moment, a notion of gratitude to his father. He was a stubborn old man, but his strength and wisdom were legendary to say the least.

Smiling lightly, he turned his attention back to Sansuka as he began to speak of Sayomi. If he was a gambling man he would say that his friend was more then just interested by her. Though he had not known Sansuka to form bond of that type with, well, anyone. He had many people that were friends, though not as close as one would think. He had a line that he tended to not let many people cross. Tenkai had figured the only reason the two of them had become such good friends is because they had known one another their entire lives. They had gone through the academy and risen through the ranks together.

They had experienced life and death together. Hell, Sansuka had even been there when Tsunkai and Amaya were born. It was because of that very reason that he saw something more then just the wanton desires of a teacher. He knew the man better then that, and there was more then there appeared. "I have noticed quite well San, you speak of her at every chance you have. You seem quite attached to her." Tenkai laughed lightly as he spoke this knowing very well the response he would most likely received. He had always enjoyed pushing his friends buttons. His expression softened though as he placed his hand on his friends shoulder once more.

"Whatever it is, you two seem to get along well, in whatever capacity. Perhaps its time you find a bond with another person other then me. We have been and will always be friends, a bond forged in the fires of war. But perhaps you need a different type of relationship?" He patted his friend on the shoulder knowing full well what he had insinuated. The man had been on his own for far too long. It was time that he opened up a little bit and let someone in. Tenkai knew what that hole felt like, it had been three hundred years since he had lost Retsu. At least he still had his family though, his children, brothers, and sisters.

Tenkai laughed as Sansuka nudged him lightly. It seemed his message had gotten through loud and clear. No more needed to be said on the topic. Regardless of how things progressed, he knew it would be good for his friend to open up a bit. At least with someone other then himself that was. "Well I guess that is all that needs to be said for now. We shouldn't keep your friend waiting any longer lest she think us rude." Laughing lightly once more, Tenkai rounded the side of the building back to where Sayomi was. Stopping a few feet from her he looked past her at the woman behind the desk still tending to paperwork. Moving forward past Sayomi towards the desk, Tenkai knocked lightly on it to get the woman's attention.

"Excuse me miss, while you are still handling the paperwork I would like to make a request for assignment." The woman took a moment to look up and see who was speaking to her. The look on her face was what Tenkai would consider priceless. She had most likely already been put through a shock seeing Sansuka. For a Captain to be present at the Shinigami Academy was very, very rare. Unless they were teaching a class, they never even stepped foot on the grounds. For her to have not only seen a Captain, but the Captain Commander as well, was needless to say shocking. "Oh, my, Captain Commander, I did not expect you to be here as well. What was it that you would request of me sir?"

Tenkai laughed slightly and waved his hand for a moment attempting to dismiss her nervousness. "Nothing particular of you, I was just like to request a specific teacher for Miss Sayomi. If you could place her in Takahashi-Sensei's class that would be wonderful." She quickly began to scrawl information down onto the paperwork in front of her filling out whatever fields were to be filled out. Tenkai hadn't the slightest clue but he assumed she was doing what he had asked. Nodding slightly to her in thanks, he turned back to Sayomi and smiled gently. "I do not mean to be forward but I just would like your potential to be fully nurtured. Takahashi-Sensei is a very old and wise teacher here. He was actually the man who taught me about kidou when I attended the academy some eight hundred years ago. His prowess with kidou is legendary and his tutelage would be invaluable to you."

Folding his arms back into the sleeves of his shihakushou he smiled down at Sayomi once more and posed a question to her. "So Sayomi, what do you think of the Soul Society so far? I would hope that putting aside the shock of ones death, it isn't too bad all things considered."

Sansuka chuckled a little and nodded. He'd bring a hand to his chin and think a moment on what he could teach her and then it came to him. His lips would part to give a gentle smile as he spoke, "Well, I suppose I could assist you in learning your Releases. My Bankai isn't the best suited for training most people but I think it'll help in your case. Now, aside from that you need to be on the lookout. It might sound off or odd but if you start hearing voices let me know immediately. It means you'll be ready soon after. For special training."

Tenkai could not help but laugh slightly from the look that he saw from Sansuka. There was clearly a tinge of irritation and Tenkai could clearly piece together what the reason for what that was. Seeing the interest he had taken in Sayomi, he wanted the privilege of teaching her to be his own. Under normal circumstances that would be fine. However, with the current state of affairs him becoming a private tutor was not really in the cards. He needed Sansuka's full support since there were only a small number of Captains left. Tenkai had to hold the shambling creature that the Soul Society had turned into together. They had gone from having Eight Captains to Three overnight. Granted one of those Three was still AWOL but had still been detected in the Soul Society.

Tenkai was satisfied to leave him to his own devices for the time being seeing as it was in his nature to kind of, roam. However, when the time came for him to be needed, he would call upon him. For now though, it was essentially himself and Sansuka running the entire Seireitei. There were of course the lieutenants such as Rensaku and his own son Tsunkai. But they did not have enough individuals in positions of power. They needed to make a push to get more people into the right ranks. If they could not do that then they were going to be having a rough go of things. Tenkai was determined to see this through to the end though, as he was now the leader of the Seireitei. He was in charge of all of the shinigami and overseeing their everyday operations.

If he could not do this, then there was no hope for their future. Sighing lightly, he rubbed the bridge of his nose lightly. As he did so his irritation faded quickly and laughter replaced it when he heard Sansuka make a comment about their age. It was quite true that the two of them were getting very old. There were not many shinigami around anymore that were in their generation. They came from the generation of the previous Captains, those who fought the Vandenreich and fell doing so. Even then, they still outdated a great deal of the Captains that were previously in position while they were still around. There were only a handful of Captains from three hundred years ago that were older then them. Genryuusai Shigekuni Yamamoto of course was the oldest, with Tenkai's now deceased wife Retsu 'Yachiru' Unohana being the next most senior.

After those two were Shunsui Kyoraku, the Captain Commander that proceeded Yamamoto and Jyuushiro Ukitake, Tenkai's role model and father figure once his own had ascended to Division Zero. It was strange when he thought back on everything, everyone he knew. So many people died, yet he survived, as did Sansuka. He wondered if they were just blessed or lucky.They fought in the wars as well, fighting against Arrancar in Aizen's betrayal and the Vandenreich when Yuwach invaded. Perhaps it was just their own lack of rank that saved their skins. At the time he had been an officer in the Seventh Division serving under Sajin Komamura. Though his appearance was, unusual, the man possessed great integrity and loyalty to the Soul Society.

Regardless, Tenkai was getting lost in himself, going down memory lane. They were not perhaps the happiest of memories, but they were his memories. The life of a shinigami was not particularly an easy one, but it had its moments. "I suppose we are rather old my friend. If you are forgetting how old we are though, you may be losing it a little bit." Tenkai laughed heartily after commenting on Sansuka's forgetfulness of his own age. It was something that did happen, that he would admit. Though it was not particularly ones forgetting of their own age, but more the lack of its importance. Humans placed a great deal of importance on their age, much more so then those in the spirit realm.

It was not uncommon for a normal soul to live for two, maybe even three hundred years. Those who possessed an exceptional amount of spiritual power, typically shinigami, could live for many centuries beyond that. Typically though many shinigami would never see the end of their life span by natural means. They would typically die on a mission or in more recent cases, during war. Though still, dying when one was four or five hundred, regardless of the cause, would be global news in the World of the Living. It was something perhaps that they took for granted. Though when one lived that long perhaps it was not too bad to take it for granted. It stopped being a gift and started being a curse.

Sighing once more, a slight smile came to his face upon Sayomi's comment. She commented on them giving her as much praise and privilege as they did. He could understand that it would seem strange from her perspective. Someone new to the Soul Society who did not quite yet understand its ways. She was gifted, very much so, and she would not realize it for some time. "I know it seems, strange, now Sayomi but you will realize why we treat you with such regard in time." Tenkai smirked slightly as he leaned against the wall of the building and crossed his arms over his chest. "As old as we are, we can recognize talent quite easily. That being the case, you my dear, have it."

He continued to smile lightly as she spoke more both at himself and Sansuka. She had spoke more of a comment then a question that pertained to Tenkai's position within the Gotei Thirteen as well as the aesthetics to the actual Seireitei. "Indeed, I suppose it does look like that. However when I was actually alive this is what the place I lived in looked. I assume the same can be said for the individuals that founded it." Pushing himself off the wall, he moved forward back towards the small group making it a triangle of souls once more. "As for my running of said place, that is indeed true. I am the Captain Commander of the Gotei Thirteen and with that I am in charge of the Seireitei and most of the Soul Society by extension. The only individuals I answer to are the old codgers in Central Forty Six. Though they rarely actually step in unless they have to.

A prime example would be an incident that happened recently here. I can't share since its, well, a bit above your pay grade at the moment. Though I am sure you will hear about it soon enough." Tenkai silenced himself after that since the topic itself still brought some anxiety to his own mind. It was still touch and go at the moment and until it had been fully resolved he would be on edge. Stopping for a moment though, he turned his attention to Sansuka. He knew he would want to give Sayomi his full attention, and normally he would approve of such a thing. Talented souls need nurturing to fully bring out their potential. However right now as he had already acknowledged, was not the best of times.

"San, I know you would like to give Sayomi all of your attention. Normally you know that it would be fine with me providing you get your duties done as well. However with the current state of things as they are, I need you in your full capacity as a Captain. I know I don't need to tell you how shaky things are right now. You can of course give her some of your attention, but I will need you to pitch in more then the minimum that would normally be okay." He knew it would be a bitter pill for his friend to swallow but he knew he would. He understood exactly how things were at the moment and that was just the reality of it. Once things had stabilized then things could go back to the way they were. For now though, everyone would have to suffer a little more.

On command from the hell butterfly that was sent his way, Rensaku appeared through a portal. He had placed himself as near to the Captain as well as the Captain Commander's Reiatsu. This was his first time ever being in the shinigami academy as most of his time was spent in a training with his family. Ren held discipline against looking around as he was to meet with everyone and needed to keep his eyes peeled as not to pass them by. Though their outfits were a dead give away, it didn't mean mistakes couldn't be made.

Closing his eyes for a moment he began searching for them through their energy; Since he was closer than before it was much easier to find Tenakai and Sansuka as those two stuck out as for as power went. Eventually, Rensaku had grouped up with everyone, staying observant despite him not needing to be. He first approached the Commander, Kneeling before speaking,"Commander, I've received your message and came as soon as I could." He said, waiting for his response.

Sansuka felt a new reaitsu enter the area as they conversed. Ah it was only Rensaku it seemed. San would nod his head at most of what Tenkai said. It was the sting of one comment that really hit him hard. He'd clear his throat and swallow hard before he spoke. " Ah yes. I suppose it would be necessary. But worry not, Bushinji-san. I'll be less lazy than normal. And hey, maybe I'll even wear my haori for a little while before I feel empowered and take it off. " Sansuka laughed a little before selling down. He'd then speak up once more. " But in honesty Bushinji-san I'll keep my eye on them for a while. But I should be able to set aside a little timetoo help Sayomi enter her world."

Sansuka huffed a little after he spoke. To most it might seem like insubordination but no, this was more a pass and poke to see if he could persuade his essential brother to allow him at least that. But he knew full well if duty made the call he was forced to heed it. A soft sigh left his lips as he thought of other things.

As Tenkai awaited a response from Sansuka another individual joined them. It appeared that Rensaku had received his orders and arrived at the shinigami. Perfect timing as it was as well considering the business here for Tenkai was about wrapped up. He had met Sayomi, the new talented youth as it seemed. He had also discussed current going on's with Sansuka and gave him a heads up as to what to expect. Now that Rensaku was here the two could begin the training that Tenkai had planned for him. "Ah, good timing Rensaku, I was hoping you would show up soon. Sayomi this is Vice Captain Rensaku Shihoin of the Second Division. Though how long he will remain a Vice Captain is the question here." Tenkai chuckled slightly hoping that what he was insinuating was obvious.

Turning his attention back to Sansuka for a moment as he was given his response. He was sour with what Tenkai had laid out for him but he expected such. He had most likely invest a great amount of his enthusiasm in preparing to train Sayomi. For him to be told he could not make her his only priority was an unhappy decision for him. However things were as they were and he needed Sansuka's full attention. As Tenkai began to walk away towards the exit of the building he stopped and spoke briefly. "Sansuka, I have no problem with you donating some of your time to training Sayomi. However, you must also allow the instructors to perform the jobs that they have as well. They are here to teach so teach they must."

He turned smiling ever so slightly as he glanced from Sayomi to Sansuka and back again. "I am sure that even if you two are separated to a degree while she is in the academy you will be spending more then enough time together after the fact. So as I said, you may donate some of your time to instructing her. But I will need you in your full capacity as a Captain of the Gotei Thirteen. Be mindful of the situation San, we are the only Captain's left. I may be strong, but if I do not have your full support, I do not know if I can carry the weight of the entire Seireitei on my shoulders alone." He nodded a farewell to both of them as he turned around and continued making his exit. As he did so he waved his hand signalling Rensaku to come along.

He felt slightly bad dragging Rensaku all around the Soul Society at his beck and call, but he himself moved around quite a bit too. However now at least he and the young Vice Captain would get some one on one time. He was eager to train Rensaku, it had been some time since he had a student to teach. Even more so then that though, he needed the young shinigami to become stronger for a singular reason. He intended to make him the next Captain of the Second Division, or any other division he desired the Captaincy of. The Gotei Thirteen was severely lacking in leadership and they needed Captains desperately. If he could fast track someone to that position, then he damn well would. Vanishing in a blur of shunpou, as was his tradition, Tenkai vanished off to his squad barracks where the training would begin.

As Rensaku listened to the insinuation toward Captaincy being in his near future, he hid his smile. As the hand motion to follow was given, as Tenkai said that they were leaving to go training. Before leaving, a respectful bow was given to Captain Sansuka. He then faced Sayomi, waving his hand. "Good day to you both, and it's nice to meet you, Sayomi. I am Rensaku Shihoin. Good look with your development as a shinigami." He said before turning to walk. He found it humorous that he'd been bouncing all over the place all this time, but he knew if it it wasn't important that he wouldn't be called upon. While walking his body began bending and shifting until it completely disappeared, leaving the two behind to take care of their business.
